CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija, Oct 28 (PIA) -- Investing in cooperatives
makes sense as these organizations create jobs and livelihood for
people, an officer of the provincial government of Nueva Ecija said.
Dr. Raymond Sarmiento of the Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurship
Development Office said, they teach cooperatives survival skills like
basic organization, management and administration, bookkeeping, and
accounting to keep them in business.
Nueva Ecija approximately has around 300 cooperatives which include
farmers, employees, dairy producers, and others.
Most cooperatives are engaged in the production of vegetable noodles,
dairy products, milk and fruit juices, sausage and processed meat
products, fresh and processed mushroom, organic beauty products,
handicrafts, and novelty items like creative lamps.
Dr. Sarmiento said monetary capital can go as low as P15,000 for a
cooperative with 15-20 members.
PCEDO, together with the Provincial Cooperative Development Council and
League of Cooperative Development Officers of the Philippines, opened a
three-day trade fair at the Freedom Park recently.
The event was graced by Governor Aurelio Umali, Representative Cherry
Umali, and former Senator Butz Aquino.
A number of the towns and cities of the province exhibited their top
products like baskets, beauty products, food items, fruits, and
vegetables at very affordable prices. (WLB/LDRP PIA-3)
